The Essex - "Easier Said Than Done"

The story about "Easier Said Than Done" making it to #1 is pretty cool. The group, the Essex, were made up of marines that met each other while on active duty. The four members must have realized how all of them shared a love for music, and were able to get themselves a recording deal with Roulette Records. Their only real hit, which is the song in question today, was even written by a fellow marine member, William Linton, who wrote the song after band member Walter Vickers requested it. Linton later said that the song's rhythm was inspired by Teletype Machines at the communications office at Camp Lejeune.
Though reportedly the band was not impressed with the song, they still recorded it for their B-Side to their song "Are You Going My Way". However, "Easier Said Than Done" proved to be the more popular song, and it shot up to #1 in the summer of 1963. There isn't much to the song, but it certainly isn't a bad song. It has a good beat, and it's fairly easy to find yourself getting into the song. Which is all you can really ask for out of a song. The thing that I find the coolest about "Easier Said Than Done" though, is how four marines who all love music can find each other, get a recording contract, and produce a #1 hit. It just comes more easily for some over others I guess.

10 ALERT!!!:
The Chiffons, who were recently in this blog, had their second biggest hit peak at #5 behind "Easier Said Than Done". That song was "One Fine Day", and in my opinion, it's slightly better than "He's So Fine". It's a 10.
